A server set up properly, in your name, in about a day.
Plenty of small servers run with a password login, no firewall and updates nobody installs. We set up a cloud server (a VPS) the way it should be from the first day, deploy your site or app on it, and hand you a document that says exactly what was done.
What you get
SSH keys only
Password logins switched off, direct root login closed, and access by key for the people who need it.
A firewall
Only the ports your app needs are open. Everything else is closed by default.
Automatic security updates
Security patches for the operating system install on their own, so a known hole does not stay open for months.
Intrusion blocking
fail2ban watches the login and web server logs and blocks addresses that keep trying to guess their way in.
HTTPS, renewed on its own
Free Let's Encrypt certificates that renew automatically, with plain HTTP redirected to HTTPS.
Your app deployed
Your site or application installed behind a web server, running as a service that restarts on its own.
Backups
Scheduled backups of your data kept off the server, and one restore tested before we hand over.
A written handover
What was installed, how to log in, where the backups go, and what to do if something stops.
How it works
- Step 1
Choose the server
We recommend a provider and a size for your app. You open the account in your name, so the server and its bill are yours.
- Step 2
Give us access
You add us as a user on the server. We never need your payment details or your provider password.
- Step 3
Setup and deploy
We harden the server, deploy your site or app, set up HTTPS and backups, and test a restore. Usually within 24 hours of access.
- Step 4
Handover
You receive the handover document and we walk you through it. We remove our access when you ask, or keep it if you choose a care plan.
What it costs
From
$300
A fixed price for one server running one site or app. Several apps, a migration from old hosting, or a setup across several servers is quoted after a short call.
See all pricesBilled to you directly
- The server itself, billed by the provider every month. A small server usually costs from a few dollars to a few tens of dollars a month, depending on its size.
- Your domain name, if you do not have one yet.
- Any paid licence your application needs.
What is not included
- Writing or fixing your application's own code
- Ongoing updates and monitoring after the handover: that is the monthly care plan
- Running your email on the server: we recommend a separate email provider
- Moving a site from existing hosting, which is quoted separately
- Certification such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2, which only an accredited auditor can issue
Questions, answered
Why should the server be in my name?
Because your business depends on it. If the server sits in our account and we stop working together, you have to ask for your own site back. In your name, you keep the access, the data and the bill, and you can change who looks after it at any time.
Which providers do you work with?
Any mainstream provider that offers a standard Linux server, such as Hetzner, DigitalOcean, OVHcloud or AWS Lightsail. We suggest one based on where your customers are and on your budget, and we use Ubuntu or Debian unless you have a reason for something else.
Is the server secure once you are done?
It is set up to current good practice, and the common ways in are closed. No setup makes a server impossible to break into, and software keeps changing, so it needs updates over time. You can keep it updated with the handover document, or the care plan does it for you.
Can you move my site from shared hosting?
Yes. A migration is quoted separately, because it depends on what moves: files, databases, email, and how much downtime is acceptable to you.
